    Established in 1871, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is located in Sydney’s The Domain adjacent to the Royal Botanic Garden and near the Central Business District, the Gallery acknowledges the original custodians of this land – the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.

    The Gallery attracts around 1 million visitors annually and runs Australia’s largest education program with over 90,000 student and teacher visits per year.

    About the Role 

    Provides specialist creative design solutions for Gallery retail briefs ranging from: merchandise, packaging, artist limited-editions, and point-of-sale (POS) materials, and preparation of product specifications, final files for sampling and production, Gallery Shop graphics and signage, image preparation, and digital designs for online retailing and marketing.

    What technical / soft skills you require

    1. Tertiary qualifications in Design fields with significant practical experience in a discipline of design, ideally retail product design and development.
    2. Ability to create effective visual communication pieces from creative concept stage through to finished product.
    3. Skills in creative design for retail products, packaging, signage, and 3D display.
    4. Skills in creative design for exhibition, environmental, animation, print and digital design and production experience.
    5. Proven experience in time management and overseeing manufacturers and suppliers, related production works in the execution of retail products, packaging, signage, and 3D displays.
    6. Strong written and oral communication skills, negotiation, and client service skills for working with the various internal and external clients, manufacturers, and suppliers.
    7. Experience in the use of design programs and applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, and other relevant design and office programs.

     

    Targeted questions

    1. Provide details of your role in the design development of two recent retail, merchandise, and/or artist limited-edition collections, including packaging, marketing campaigns, publications, exhibition packages, or mid-size identity projects (maximum of 300 words).
    2. The role requires that you communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders both internally and externally to get a production completed. Give an example of an occasion when you have had to manage and resolve the differing expectations of multiple stakeholders for merchandise and/or artist limited-edition collections, including packaging, (300-word limit).

    Applicants are asked to submit either a folio of work as a URL link or PDF which demonstrate overall design skills.

     

    Shortlisted applicants will be required to complete a design exercise in merchandise and packaging concepts.

     

    Part of the assessment process may include additional online capability testing, skills testing or work samples in accordance with the new Government Sector Employment Act 2013, therefore you may be contacted to participate.
