MSAANZ Retail Recognition Awards

This year we are pleased to announce our Inaugural MSAANZ Retail Recognition Awards to coincide with our annual conference in Sydney later this year.

These awards will celebrate the best of cultural commerce throughout Australia & New Zealand, with categories ranging from Best New Bespoke Product or Range, through to Best Online Presence, and a Peoples Choice Award.

Award winners will be announced during the #MSAANZ17 Conference Dinner on the evening of the 21st of September 2017, with entries open to both Member & Non-Member Cultural Institutions. Judging of the awards will involve a banded system of entry – separating venues turning over less than one million dollars per year and those over one million dollars.

Announcing the MSAANZ17 Conference Programme

The MSAANZ Executive are excited to share the final programme for the MSAANZ17 Conference, to be held in Sydney in September 2017.

It is shaping up to be another great year, with a team of both local and International speakers, including our Key Note speaker Stuart Hata, A veteran museum store retailer for over 28 years, Stuart Hata has been Director of Retail Operations for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco since 2003. In this capacity, Stuart is responsible for a multi-million dollar business at
the de Young and Legion of Honor Museum Stores, leading a staff of 40 plus team members.

We are also excited to have Andrew Andoniadis of Andoniadis Retail Services, Oregon USA join our speaker line up. Since 1992, Andrew Andoniadis has specialized in increasing the profits of museum stores and enhancing the visitor experience. He has been a featured seminar presenter at museum conferences throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe.

MSAANZ17 Scholarship Award Winner

On Behalf of the MSAANZ Scholarship Committee, we are pleased to announce the winner of the 2017 Scholarship to attend the MSAANZ17 Conference this September in Sydney.
Congratulation to Erika McClintock, Visitor & Commercial Services Manager, City Gallery Wellington, a part of Experience Wellington. Erika worked in the cultural retail sector for many years as a student in the United States, and joined the team at  City Gallery Wellington in 2013. She has contributed to significant growth in the Gallery’s retail operation to date and is looking forward to attending her first MSAANZ conference.
We also want to thank the members of the Scholarship Award Committee  for all their hard work in evaluating the submissions. It is a lot of hard work with a very difficult choice making a decision from all the worthy applicants.

Andrew Andoniadis – MSAANZ17 Guest Speaker

The MSAANZ is proud to announce that Andrew Andoniadis, of Andoniadis Retail Services Oregon , is one of 2 international guest speakers at this years MSAANZ conference, being held in in Sydney in September 2017.

Since 1992, Andrew  has specialized in increasing the profits of museum shops and enhancing the visitor experience.  He has been a featured seminar presenter at museum conferences throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe,  and joins our key note speaker Stuart Hata of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco on our programme.

His popular, up-beat, nuts n’ bolts, profit boosting seminars and workshops, including the all-day How To Make Your Museum Shop More Profitable seminar, have been attended by hundreds of managers, buyers and salespeople from a wide range of museum shops.  Andrew blends extensive, hands-on retailing experience with practicality, humor and a clear understanding of the goals and challenges of museum shop management.  His seminars reflect his passion for retailing and for your museum’s success.

MSAANZ establishes annual conference scholarship.

The Museums Shops Association of Australia & New Zealand is proud to announce the commencement of an annual scholarship, established to assist museum store professionals to attend the annual MSAANZ Conference to learn more about their trade and strengthen their skills, thereby enhancing the industry.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Have never attended an MSAANZ Retail Conference.
  •  Must be employed with a cultural retailing environment. (Museum, Gallery, Zoo etc)
  • Must certify financial need.
  • Applicants organisation must be an MSAANZ member in good standing at the time of application.

The winning applicants will be selected by an appointed MSAANZ Scholarship Committee and will receive written notification of their selection.

Recipients must attend the full program on the date and location specified, and will be asked to write a report for our members detailing their experience at conference. In case of a recipient being unable to attend the conference, the award must be returned. The applicant may re-apply at any time to attend a future conference. The award is not transferable.
